Compare two lists
Your texts stay on your computer. Nothing is uploaded.

Paste or drop two texts: their differences will appear here.
A list of sign-ups before and after a reminder, two exports of product references, a mailing list to update: paste one list in each box, one item per line, and difftool.fr shows what was added, removed or changed. On this page, blank lines and leading or trailing spaces are ignored by default, so they don’t skew the result.
How to do it
- Copy the first list (a spreadsheet column, a text file…) and paste it on the left.
- Paste the second list on the right.
- Removed items appear in red (−), added items in blue (+).
The summary gives the number of items added and removed. Tick “Hide identical lines” to keep only the differences.
Preparing your lists
- One item per line: that is what you get when you copy a column from Excel, LibreOffice or Google Sheets.
- Order matters. The tool compares the lists in the order they are written. If the two lists are not sorted the same way, sort them first (for example alphabetically in your spreadsheet): only real additions and removals will remain.
- If capitalisation doesn’t matter (email addresses, for instance), tick “Ignore case”.
Frequently asked questions
Does the order of items matter?
Yes: difftool.fr compares the lists line by line, in order. An item that simply moved shows up as removed in one place and added in another. Sort both lists the same way before comparing to avoid this.
How do I compare two Excel columns?
Select the first column, copy it and paste it in the left box, then do the same with the second column on the right. Each cell becomes a line. The data stays on your computer.
Do capital letters and spaces count?
Leading and trailing spaces and blank lines are ignored on this page. Capital letters count by default: tick “Ignore case” so that “Alice” and “alice” are treated as identical.
How many items can I compare?
Tens of thousands: two lists of 10,000 lines are compared in under a second, and scrolling stays smooth.
Are my lists sent to a server?
No. The lists are compared in your browser and are neither sent nor stored. You can compare contact or customer lists without exposing them.
