Privacy

In short: difftool.fr collects nothing about you. Your texts and files stay on your device, the site uses no cookies, and only an anonymous visit counter records page views.

Your texts and files

The comparison runs entirely in your browser, by a program downloaded with the page. The texts you paste and the files you open or drop:

  • are not sent to any server, neither to difftool.fr nor to any third party;
  • are never stored: they disappear when you close or reload the page;
  • can still be compared offline: once the page has loaded, you can disconnect and the tool keeps working.

Word and PDF documents are read the same way: the program that extracts their text is downloaded from difftool.fr the first time you open such a file, then it works on your device. The document is not sent.

The diff you copy or download, and the PDF you print, are produced by your browser, on your device.

These commitments are checked automatically for every version of the site: a test fails if any network request is made during a comparison.

Your settings

So you don’t have to choose them every time, your settings (comparison level, ignore options, view, theme, highlighting) are remembered in your browser’s local storage. They are not sent to the site and contain no text. To erase them, clear the site’s data in your browser settings.

Visit counting, without cookies

Visits are counted with GoatCounter, a privacy-friendly analytics tool. It counts page views (page address, referring site, browser type, screen size, country) without cookies and without identifying you: no profile is built and you are not tracked across sites. That is why difftool.fr shows no consent banner.

The content of your texts is never part of these statistics.

Server logs

Like any web server, the one hosting difftool.fr keeps a technical log of requested pages (IP address, date, page, browser). This log is used only for security and troubleshooting. It is deleted after 14 days and is neither combined with other data nor shared with third parties. It never contains your texts, since they are not sent.

No account, no ads

difftool.fr asks for no sign-up and no email address, and shows no advertising.
